Ronan’s project was managing the painting of a world map mural on the wall of a high school in the Bronx. He and his fellow volunteers drew a grid on the wall and used a map kit to draw the countries. They then painted the map with different colors for each country. Afterwards they created an index with the names of the countries next to the map so it can be used for educational purposes such as geography contests.

Zachary W.

For his Eagle Project, Zachary built a boot brush station, installed an informational sign panel, and removed invasive species from two trails in Nature Study Woods in New Rochelle. Nature Study Woods is one of the parks where Westchester County Parks Foundation (the beneficiary organization) does conservation work. The boot brush station removes invasive plant seeds from the shoes of visitors before they enter the park. A sign attached to the boot brush station educates visitors on the effect that invasive species have on the ecological health of the park and simple steps that visitors can take to help. The invasive species Lesser Celandine was removed from the trails to help control their spread. Visitors to the park during the project construction and plant removal were educated on the harmful effect of invasive plants. The project helped to create an environment that promotes ecological health.

Daniel's project centered around the repair and completion of a terraced garden at Hitchcock. There had been an unfinished, abandoned terraced garden in the rear of the church’s property which, with the expansion of the Bronx River Trailway, had gone from a dark corner with little pedestrian traffic to part of a busy walking and jogging route for the community. Daniel’s project resulted in a garden of flowers and plants for the church community and users of the Bronx River Trailway to enjoy.

For his Eagle project, Daniel designed and built an 8’ x 8’ outdoor enclosure for the enrichment of the animals of the Scarsdale Weinberg Nature Center. Animals of the nature center are put in the enclosure during the day and put back indoors in cages at night. The project has been well received by humans and animals alike.

Justin’s project was to create a Little Free Library for the Seely Place Elementary School playground. The library consists of a raised weather-proof wooden structure where anyone can take or leave a book. The purpose of the library is to ensure that kids have access to books all-year-round, especially in the summer when schools are closed.

Ashay’s EP was to restore an unkempt and overgrown area into a beautiful garden at the India Center of Westchester. Ashay was able to initiate, develop and complete the project by recruiting volunteers for the various aspects of the work needed. He enlisted the scouts from the troop and several other friends and family members to help with his project. He returned to the center this past summer and helped the volunteers to keep up with the work he started. The India center now has a beautiful perennial garden which will continue to flourish for many years to come.

Wesley’s eagle project was the rebuilding of a 40-yard segment of a severely eroded and unsafe trail in the woods at Edgemont High School that is used by students daily to get to and from school. The work included clearing an adjacent stream of debris and moving stones to assist with rerouting the water flow, re-grading the trail with dirt and gravel to build a turnpike and eliminate puddling, forming short barrier walls of stone, and removing existing degraded wood stairs and replacing them with rock steps. The project cost just under a thousand dollars and took approximately 110 man-hours of physical labor with the assistance of scouts, friends, and family.

For his Eagle project Alexander built three outdoor benches for Hitchcock. Permanent outdoor seating was in short supply and was in particular need by the older congregants when attending outdoor events or awaiting transportation.

Ryan helped the Thomas Paine Cottage with a landscaping and restoration project. He built a new rain gutter for an old schoolhouse on site, built a portable bench historically appropriate to the Cottage, created a memorial garden around a revolutionary war memorial marker, and restored a historically appropriate butterfly garden adjacent to the
house.

When Robert moved to Scarsdale, his family found they had a 92 year old WWII veteran living across the street. He was so impressed with this, when it was time for his Eagle Project, a memorial our neighbor was involved with, The Kemper Memorial Park in Mamaroneck, was looking for someone to start up their beautification of the park. They gave him a parcel of land, approximately 600 square feet in size, and told him they wanted a flower garden that would bloom throughout three seasons. This is exactly what he built. In addition, he built wooden boxes to hold mini American Flags to be used at ceremonies honoring the Veterans.

A year after the super storm Sandy hit our area, Alexander was looking for an Eagle Project. His favorite county park, Cranberry Lake (near Kensico Dam), had been hit by many downed trees so he asked the curator, Danniela Ciatto, if he could clear trails. She said she really needed a different project to close a roof on a stone chamber that posed a danger to visitors. Alexander decided this would be a great project and began the planning. Many Troop 4 Scouts and parents helped him and they constructed a wood platform over the opening in the roof of the stone chamber. The project went smoothly so and was completed on November 23rd, 2013. Alexander is thankful to all the Troop 4 helpers, parents, and to Home Depot for donating the materials

For my Eagle Scout Project, Connor mounted 14 wooden housings into concrete fixtures around the grounds of his church, Church of St. Pius X, to house Stations of the Cross that had been previously retired following an earlier Church renovation.
He led 42 volunteers in digging 14 12-cubic foot holes, mounting steel posts into the holes, pouring 6,000 pounds of concrete, and securing the wooden housings to the steel poles. With the help of his fellow scouts from Troop 4 as well as other friends, over the course of a cumulative 176 man-hours we successfully completed the project in three weeks, two weeks fewer than anticipated. Now, parishioners will see the mounted Stations around St. Pius X for decades to come.

John initiated and led a project for the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park to create a sustainable and welcoming garden entrance to the park's running path. Work involved cleanup of trash, design and implementation of a sustainable garden and a community notice board. The Old Croton Aqueduct Historic path runs from the Croton River through Van Cortland Park to New York City and was the original gravity-fed source of water for Manhattan. 27 people from the Troop helped out that day as well as all the people who helped him find the project with Habitat for Humanity!
